Amazon.com's Best of 2000 Her father may be the legendary Brazilian guitarist Joao Gilberto, but in 2000 daughter Bebel proved that she understands the bossa nova, too. There's a subtlety throughout this recording that makes Bebel's voice entrancing, as she re-creates the sensual essence of bossa nova before running with it into electronic territory toward the album's end. Tanto Tempo is an even-tempered statement that manages to showcase Bebel's own sexy voice while gracefully remembering the past. --Karen K. Hugg
Amazon.com Daughter of the famed Brazilian pop and bossa nova singer Joao Gilberto, Bebel recalls her father's own classic recordings on Tanto Tempo, with a sure sense of pitch. Bebel Gilberto is hardly less charming for that, though, and the album entices with hushed passion. Relying mostly on acoustic instruments and some muted orchestrations, Tanto Tempo is nonetheless smartly paced to allow for some tasteful dance-club electronics to augment a few tracks, and ends on a celebratory note with "Close Your Eyes"--all but an invitation to Carnival. The current trend for things Brazilian should assure this disc a deservedly wide audience. Licensing it for the U.S. is another minor triumph for the fine San Francisco-based label Six Degrees. --Rickey Wright

You don't have to speak the language to understand July 14, 2008 Licinda Jean Mytych (Baltimore, Maryland) A friend played this CD for me on my last visit to Paris and I now associate Paris with Bebel's Tanto Tempo CD...even though she's Brazilian and the music is not Parisian. It just fit the time and place. You don't have to understand a word of what she's singing to understand what she's saying. I know nothing about Bossa Nova or Brazilian music but I got what she was portraying in these soulful and emotive songs. Just incredible and can put you in such a great positive mood! A must have for your collection if you are open to varied music tastes.
Showtunes in June.... June 18, 2008 Ishmael Abdulrahman (Columbus,Ohio) I originally was attracted to Bebel Giberto because of her voice & the main reason beacause of the track "August Day"(THE KING BRITT REMIX). If you have'nt heard it, its banana's(I love it). I can't say that Bebel is my favorite artist but I do enjoy some of her songs. The rest of her songs put me to sleep, but someone must enjoy them beacause she has 4 freakin album thus far. If she had more songs like August Day Song & Aganju',she would have a big fan in me.
The Easiest 5-Star Review I've Ever Written. April 19, 2008 G. Merritt (Boulder, CO) Beautiful (and still single) Brazilian chanteuse, Bebel Gilberto (1966), is the daughter of Joao Gilberto and singer Miucha. Produced by Suba, the multi-talented Sao Paulo electronica producer (who actually died while rescuing this recording material from a fire), Bebel's 2000 U.S. debut album Tanto Tempo is an intoxicating, haunting fusion of bossa nova, musica popular brasileira, samba, and latina pop. (Having defined the genre with his 1964 album, Getz/Gilberto, one can almost hear Joao Gilberto's genetic influence in these songs.) Inquisitive minds wonder how many babies have been conceived as a result of this sensual recording. The complete album tracklist includes:
1. Samba da Bencao 4:45 2. August Day Song 4:37 3. Tanto Tempo 2:58 4. Sem Contencao 3:09 5. Mais Feliz 4:15 6. Alguem 4:03 7. So Nice (Summer Samba) 3:31 8. Lonely 2:23 9. Bananeira 3:25 10. Samba e Amor 3:27 11. Close Your Eyes 4:14

The sexiest album in modern recording! August 29, 2007 Frederick J. Miller Jr. (Wells, ME USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not since Barry White's early grooves or the sensual crooning of Marvin Gay has there been such a delightful, soulful and sexy artist like Bebel Gilberto. As the daughter of Joao & Astrud Gilberto, she has beautifully carried on the tradition of lush, mystical Brazilian bossa-nova at its most subtle and sublime. As whimsical and sensual as her mother, Bebel's Portuguese-tinged English vocals and straight "Brasileiro" songs need no translation, and the smoothly shuffling Bossa Nova goes straight to your hips and toes. It's like a trip straight down to Rio or Sao Paulo. The fact that this reviewer speaks Brazilian Portuguese makes it even sweeter and more sultry. Bebel IS the real girl from Ipanema. Wonderful, soulful, sexy and jazzy. Bossa Nova for this generation! FANTASTIC!...and on the Verve label, yet (for you jazz fans).
Can't get enough....... July 22, 2007 Robert C. Hufford (Hopewell, VA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
.....of this fabulous singer. Right now, there are several beautiful Brazilian girls who make beautiful music, and Bebel heads the list. CeU is a comparitive [though fabulous] rookie, and the wonderful Ana Caram has the mixed fortune to record for a boutique label, whose product is hard to find.
This is an absolutely wonderful recording...seductive, alive, enchanting, addicting. The songs are Latin jazz, and won't be familiar to most American listeners, even the ones in English [Bebel's English is pretty good]. Who Cares...this record is about feelings that know no language.
Do not fail to grab this...one hearing, and you're hooked. Then, you'll want Bebel's other records; that's OK, because they're great, too. Go ahead, be seduced; you'll enjoy it. Promise.
