Product Description Onkyo, which means 'audio' or 'sound' in Japanese, has been producing precision audio components for over a half-century. This Onkyo HT-S7100 is a serious home-theater surround sound system so your home entertainment won't be compromised in any way. with up to 7.1 channels, you've got all the audio and video processing needed to take full advantage of the audio and video capabilities of Blu-Ray disc players and modern HD video displays, without the complexities of an individual component system. With one-cable HDMI connectivity, Audyssey automatic room setup and calibration, and Onkyo's signature audio performance this sound system is the perfect complement to your HDTV.
The front L/R and horizontal center channel speakers each feature a pair of 3-1/8 inch cone woofers and a high quality 1-inch balanced tweeter. For a coherent and timbre-matched surround field, the included surround speakers each use the same drivers as the front speakers, but employ only a single woofer. It also includes a high-power downfiring subwoofer with a 10-inch cone driver with an internal 290 watt amplification module. All crossover points in can be set to any of eight possible settings for ideal integration with the environment and listener preferences. The HT-S7100 featurs Audyssey's Dynamic EQ algorithm, which refines the system's frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment to compensate for deteriorations in the listening experience at different volume levels. When used in combination with the Audyssey 2EQ system, this feature tailors the receiver's output to correct for room acoustics, listening position, and playback-level distortions, delivering an overall experience that is a much closer match to what the audio production engineers originally intended.
The HT-S7100 is home-theater system ready. It includes a full-function RI (Remote Interactive) remote control and Onkyo's RIHD (Remote Interactive over HD

HT-S7100 a good value at under $700, but audiophiles beware November 16, 2008 Steven Borenstein (Lahaina, Hawaii) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Onkyo HT-S7100 package is great for a starter 7.1 system, but I found the speakers to be largely a disappointment.
The bad: Bass is muddy from the powered sub. The side surrounds and rear surround speakers have fewer drivers than the fronts and center and are physically lighter. The speaker grilles are not removable (I guess the manufacturer is pretty embarassed to show these cheap drivers). The speaker wire is pretty poor, but on par with the make of the speakers. And as mentioned in some other reviews, the light on the sub is too noticeable- a well placed piece of black electric tape is needed to tone it down. iPod dock is not compatible with the video from an iPod Touch, audio is fine though.
The good: The system is extremely well packed into 1 large box. This got to me in Hawaii without even a dent. The included TX-SR606 with its 4 HDMI inputs is great. I don't care for the remote too much, and I don't like the slightly audible clicking noise the receiver can make when changing signal processing to Dolby, etc... but all in all I think it is a fine product for the money. The look of the system is really very attractive. The speaker stands are sturdy, very nice looking, and mount the speaker well. Included iPod adapter contributes well to making this package a nice value. The speakers have a threaded mount on the back and can accept an omni-mount threaded bracket perfectly.
Conclusion: Great out of the box starter system with a hard-to-beat value for the money. Audiophles should buy the Onkyo receiver seperate, and get some more serious home theater speakers. If the successor to this system has improved speakers with removable grills and better binding posts this would be a fantastic package.
Amazing sound for a HTIB!! November 9, 2008 C. Gerling (Virginia) I'm not an audiophile. If you are, you shouldn't be buying a HTIB so you probably aren't going to be reading this anyway.
Setup was a breeze, I hardly needed the manual other than to tell me what speakers to use for 5.1 vice 7.1 (won't need those till we move again in a year and have a larger living room, or if I pump them into another room). I seriously could not believe how fast and easy it was to get them configured.
The sound is definitely the most amazing I have heard out of all the HTIB's I have owned in the last 5 years. You can't go wrong with Onkyo.
2 negatives:
1. The included iPod dock will not let you do anything with the remote other than play, pause, and skip to the last and next tracks WITHIN A GIVEN PLAYLIST. You cannot navigate through any menus at all, so you have to physically walk up to the dock to change what album/playlist you are in. I typically use Shuffle most of the time anyway, so it's not a complete deal breaker, but others might not.
2. Upscaling through HDMI is limited to 1080i as far as I can tell. My Xbox 360 (with component) plugs into the back with the optical audio cable too, and then goes out via HDMI to the TV. I am not seeing any way to make it work at 1080p so far.
GREAT SOUND SYSTEM November 4, 2008 M. Hemmatyar (Encino< CA) When I orderd my HTIB, although it was in stock, I had to wait 6 days before it was shipped, it arrived after 2 days. Great sound system for the price, easy set up, I run TV and SAT./DVR and DVD player through receiver, but it is more complex to use the remote, there should be one button to turn on and off all components rather to do it one by one, remote keys does not light up.
Completely Satisfied October 20, 2008 David M. Baird (Richmond, KY) I recently purchased this set up about a week ago. I'll just be brief because no one really wants to read a book, they just want to know Pros/Cons.
Pro: Sounds Great, Really Good Reciever, Speaker Stands, Multiple Connections, iPod is controlled by remote, Audyssey works great, Seperate Volum control that controls only recieve....
Cons: Crap speaker wire, Annoying blue light on sub, Remote does not light up or glow in the dark, Can't use DVI to HDMI cable from cable boxes.
Onkyo HT-S7100 7.1 chanel receiver & speaker package October 18, 2008 Robert Richardson (Raleigh, NC) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I had ordered a HT-S9100, but that package came in damaged and had to be refused. Due to a waiting period of 2-3 months for a replacement, I ordered the HT-S7100 7.1. It was $200.00 less and it was shipped in 3 days. The system was easy to set up and as with all the Onkyo reviews I have read the speaker wire was cheesey. The receiver is a beefed up SR606 which had good reviews from C-Net. The speakers sound good and look good (made of plastic)and the subwoofer is great. The receiver has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 out. All in all I think I got a good system that was matched for me by Onkyo.
