Amazon.com Product Description
When quality counts and space is tight, the ProMedia GMX A-2.1 system from Klipsch provides stylish, full-range sound from a pair of matched, two-way satellite speakers and a 50-watt powered subwoofer. The system's analog stereo (left/right).125-inch minijack plug accepts dynamic sound from any audio source--from PCs and game consoles to CD, DVD players, VCRs,minidisc player/recorders, and MP3 players.

This one goes to eleven.
The satellites receive 14 watts per channel from an amplifier housed within the subwoofer, and each satellite uses a three-inch woofer and .75-inch tweeter in Klipsch's exclusive MicroTractrix horn. They're magnetically shielded to allow distortion-free placement near a computer monitor or television, and their ported enclosures extend their low-frequency reach down to the subwoofer's upper 140 Hz crossover region. Each satellite comes with its own self-supporting ball-joint pedestal that grants a 45-degree range of motion for optimal sound directing.

An included preamplifier/control module includes separate main and subwoofer volume controls, letting you set a subwoofer level whose volume relative to that of the satellites is most pleasing to you. The controller offers two stereo inputs: one dual RCA and one stereo (left/right) .125-inch minijack plug. Further, a headphone output grants private listening. The system boasts a wide frequency response--an impressive 35 to 20,000 Hz--but keep in mind that the range for this response is +/- 5 dB rather than the traditional +/- 3 dB, so the effective range may be a little more limited than the numbers suggest.

Hook up is simple. The speakers connect to the subwoofer via included RCA-type connection cables, and the controller connects to the subwoofer via an included DIN connection cable. The rear panel of the GMX A-2.1's subwoofer features a Klipsch SWS Link socket, fostering the easy connection of one or more ProMedia SWS supplementary powered subwoofers to further extend and fortify low-frequency reproduction. The SWS Link fully integrates your additional subwoofer(s) with the rest of the system, allowing master volume and bass-level adjustment all from the GMX A-2.1 controller.

A full host of ports for all your audio parts.

What's in the Box
Two satellite speakers with pedastals attached, one subwoofer, one control preamplifier, requisite cabling (with 22 gauge wire), AC power cord, DC power cord, DIN cord, one stereo minijack interconnect, and a user's manual.

3 out of 5 stars They are for sale at 1/2 of what I paid!   July 9, 2008

They are good, but they are an overkill for a laptop, which is what I wanted them for, and Dell's speaker system, the bass is much smaller, but seems to sound better; same thing with the speakers, high tech as they might be, their design does not convince me at all (remember, this are the comments of a 53 y/old 1/2 bold guy, newer, younger generations will probably love them.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome, bargain for 140 bucks.   June 12, 2008

It's amazing to me how many reviewers make a comment about the "hissing" in these speakers. Maybe I'm not entirely an audiophile or something, but I know a thing or two about sound since I happen to be a guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, and music lover. The "hiss" isn't much of a hiss so much as it is just a tiny, tiny white noise that you have to put your ears next to in order to hear. That said, if you're playing any sort of music on it, it's completely unnoticeable - and last time I checked, my ears were working fine. As for sound quality: driving electric guitars sound like their coming from a live amp. It's so natural, and this sucker can get loud, too. Cymbals crash with a very believable shine to them due to the metal Klipschorns. The subwoofer puts out some tremendous bass. Everything is as awesome as I could possibly expect.

That being said, my set did come with a defective control unit (made the sub cut in and out, and the bass adjustment did nothing), so I shot Klipsch an e-mail telling them about it. I was extremely impressed when I got a response within 5-10 minutes and had one shipping to me within 15. Amazing.

Bottom line: You're not going to find anything for 140 bucks that sounds this good. Buy it.

Very clean and crisp sound. I heard horns the way they should be, even though I lean toward strings for enjoyment. This system satisfies my ear from acid rock to blues to Tiny Tim ( I don't even listen to him er ? )

5 out of 5 stars Great Sound   January 21, 2008

Great sound for the price. One of the best systems you can get for the price. You will enjoy the clear sound. Your neighbors will too!
