3 out of 5 stars Nice, but far from perfect   January 14, 2008

The antenna on the Home Dock is much trickier to use than the car antenna. In my part of the country, the directions say it must face north for best reception. However, all the windows in the room I have my stereo face south-east. You are suppossed to be able to install the antenna outside as well, but my windows do not open. So I am forced to try to recieve the signal through the walls of the house, which is similar to trying to receive the signal while driving through a forest - spotty at best. But when it works - it works well.

5 out of 5 stars Rate the PRODUCT, not the customer service...   November 17, 2006

The S50 Home Kit does exactly what it's supposed to do, and it does it perfectly. It includes everything you need to listen to high-quality, digital satellite radio from your S50, plus a few extras: the dock, the power cord, 2 sets of audio cables, a remote (with battery), and an antenna.

A previous reviewer gave this item 1 star because of a poor customer service experience. If what she stated is true, then it's terrible, of course, but that's no reason to rate the *product* poorly... She should delete her "review," and use the Discussion area for non-product comments like hers.

That previous reviewer also erroneously claims "...it requires a car set up to use it in the home dock." That's ridiculous. First of all, when you buy an S50, it comes with a car dock, so even if you did need the car dock to play it at home, you'd already have it. Regardless, you don't need the CAR dock to use the HOME dock; that wouldn't make any sense at all, would it? From what she wrote, it sounds like she bought this home dock thinking that's all she needed, and never had an S50 to begin with... Maybe she should have done a little homework (like reading the part that clearly states "For S50 satellite radio receiver [sold separately]") before making her purchase.

I've owned this Home Kit for a year, and I haven't had any problems with it at any time. I've disconnected/reconnected the antenna a few times, and unlike another reviewer, nothing has ever broken.

1 out of 5 stars Won't be doing business with Sirius again   November 1, 2006

Customer service at Sirius was the absolute worst I have ever experienced.

The people who fix the units can't talk to the people who run the service can't talk to the people who do billing, and they can't even forward you around. You just have to make 8 different calls.

I'd ordered this for a teenager only to find out that the description is misleading and it requires a car set up to use it in the home dock. He didn't have a car. But I agreed he could put the base in my car. But it didn't seem to be performing correctly.

1. I talked to people in customer service who told me I had to call people who manufacture the product.
2. I called them to have them tell me it was working. Then I needed to call the people who have something to do with the signal.
3. I called them only to have them tell me I was hearing something different than what I was actually hearing. They didn't know who I should call.
4. Repeated steps 1 and 2 and got someone very good working for the product manufacturer who was able to verify with me that it was defective.
5. I was told to call a different number at Sirius and get a number to use to return it. When I called that number they said I wasn't under warranty because I had new product and it hadn't hit their computer system yet.
6. It was recommended I return it to "the store I bought it from" Amazon (which I did for full credit despite the warning on the package that if I opened it and set it up etc. it was no longer returnable to them and only to the manufacturer - the only reasonable experience in the entire transaction)
7. I had already turned on the service so I had to call yet another number to turn off the service and have it all credited to my account. They tried to convince me to keep it until I got my replacement unit and didn't seem to care when I said I would not get a replacement unit because this was my 7th phone call to get a resolution on this one. But did I want to put it on hold just in case because it was probably a better deal for me if I did.
8. I made a follow up call to see if I could reach someone in customer service to kindly give them a heads up on what may be a process problem so that they didn't lose more customers. I'm a very calm reasonable person who understands that people make mistakes. This was the processes in place and not necessarily the people although they clearly weren't empowered to help solve the problem or provide a better experience.
Still while I made it quite clear to the final person in customer service that I would not do business with them again unless they got their customer service act together, she tried to get me to just put the subscription on hold so I could get a replacement unit.

I said "You aren't hearing me. This is not about the unit. The unit being broken is minor. But I should have been able to determine and fix it in fewer than 8 calls." I could excuse up to 3. But when a customer is on call # 2 or # 3 every service employee should be empowered to guide that customer to resolution. Sometimes a problem can be a gateway to opportunity with a customer to deepen the relationship or impress them so much with service they trust your company. This was the exact opposite experience. I was going to be a customer no matter what because my nephew wanted Sirius for Christmas. They lost me on the customer service experience.

5 out of 5 stars S50 even better at home!   April 9, 2006

I have had my S50 for several months now. I am very pleased with quality and style of the radio in my car. The S50 home dock has made me even happier with my Sirius radio purchase. The home dock is well made and sounds fantastic feeding Sirius content into my Bose wave radio. Controls are identical to the car base and it looks awesome, it is in another class from all other home satellite units without moving up to something like a Tivoli. I love it! If you have the S50 in your car and love it, you need this base. The TV is getting jealous of all the time I now spend with my Sirius Radio at home.

1 out of 5 stars WAIT FOR THE EXECUTIVE   April 7, 2006

The Sirius S50 home docking kit is a piece of junk. Had two fall apart (the antenna connection wire broke off both times, rendering it useless). The first one lasted a week, the second one barely two. You'll be okay if you never need to disconnect the antenna..otherwise, you are screwed.

Love the service, like the S50, HATE the home docking kit.
