The album cover of this self-titled release depicts the members of Slipknot in creepy masks, the dark image confirmed by the presence of a parental advisory sticker. Inside, foul language and subversive lyrics complete the picture. Yet Slipknot are no Insane Clown Posse, using hyperbole to mask a lack of talent. Slipknot's sound, while indebted to the likes of Korn, is more aggressive and creative. Indeed, it's a closer kin to Slayer and death metal, yet listenable and surprisingly melodic. The common denominator among Slipknot and the late '90s crop of neo-metal-rap bands is producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit), who discovered the Iowa-bred Slipknot and signed them to his label, I Am Records. His stellar production, melded with wonderfully creepy percussive elements, a sampler, a DJ, metallic-grind guitars, and singer Corey Taylor's immense passion and wide melodic range, makes Slipknot immensely listenable. let me start out by saying that slipknot is something that you have to have a taste for, so if you don't like it don't listen to it! anyway this self titled album is a great cd, it features some of their earlier work such as eyeless, and wait and bleed. the band its self consists of 9 members: sid wilson(DJ), corey taylor(lead vocals), jim root(rythem guitarist), mick thompson(lead guitarist), paul gray(bassist), shaun crahan(percussion), chris ferhn(percussion), craig jones(sampler), joey jordison(drums). needless to say, its a big band that packs one hell of a punch! oh and to those who said sid does nothing for the band, your wrong! he's a great dj, and only does what needs to done so that he's not over-bearing! i geuss in closing i'll say that if you love slipknot, then buy this album, because its a great one!!!

1st off, Why are people sayin that this is "Death Metal" ?
Seriously, this ISNT!!!
Anywayz, This CD is really good, thats if, you havent heard it in a LONG time or if you havent heard it at all.
Yeh, the screaming kinda gets annoying, but if your use to it, then, hey, wth, right ?
My personal opinion is, IF you like slipknot ALOT, then go for it.
BUT if you're just getting into them, then, I recommend their 2nd album Iowa.
Anywayz, I personally would put this in the "kiddie Metal" genre.
Because everyone knowz, therez MORE bands that are heavier.
But yeh, thats my review.

A must have for music fans. Period.
Delicious noise.
Nu Metal? Yes.
But out of the thousands of nu metal bands, Slip was one of the VERY few good ones.

This does not suck really but i hate all the stupid rap but the screams and drumming is sure good.This is the only album they were rap/metal huh, rap metal it's not even metal,anyway this is not their best cause iowa is way different than this one no more rap and hell it doesn't even sound nu metal just "METAL".and for vol 3 not as good than iowa but kinda cool and for this one just check it out rap sucks big time but listen to the hard stuff.OH AND FOR THAT DUDE WHO HATES BLACK METAL WELL FOR YOU'RE INFORMATION SLIPKNOT LOVES IT ESPECIALLY JOEY HE'S BEEN A DRUMMER FOR BLACK METAL HAHAHAHAHAHA!GOOD THING THEY DON'T SOUND LIKE THIS ANYMORE WELL THE RAP OF COURSE.OH AND YEAH IT'S FAKE METAL BUT LISTEN TO THE HARD STUFF,I LISTEN TO THEM AND CALLED THEM GAY
