Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
After the release of their next album, STING IN THE TAIL, and a three-year mammoth tour, which will take them across five continents, one of the most successful rock bands in the world, SCORPIONS, will be ending their career. During their 40-year career, SCORPIONS sold over 100 million albums and received many awards, such as the World Music Award and several Echos--the German equivalent to the Grammy. Today they still play sold-out venues around the world. Not long ago, 152,000 South Americans came to 15 SCORPIONS concerts between Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City. Their song "Wind of Change" has become an anthem for the fall of the Iron Curtain. The tour will launch in the band's home country Germany in May. After that, they will be touring through North America before they continue their journey through five other continents until 2012.

Album Description
2010 release, the 17th studio album by the German Heavy Metal band, Unfortunately, It will be their last studio album before packing it in. The album features a duet with the Finnish Symphonic Metal singer Tarja Turunen, on the song 'The Good Die Young'.

This will surely be counted amongst the Scorpion's top albums. The best traditional metal I have heard in a long time.

5 out of 5 stars I'm impressed ***   June 30, 2010

I'm impressed with this album and surprised because I didn't think that I would like it.

4 out of 5 stars "If I Had a Cheap Guitar and One Dirty Riff"   June 30, 2010
Jack Baker (LeRoy,IL)
I first became a fan of the Scorpions in high school when Crazy World came out. When I started seeking out their older albums, they quickly became one of my favorite hard rock bands. The German rockers recently announced that they would be retiring and released Sting in the Tail as a bookend to a long and storied career. Original members Klaus Meine (vocals) and Rudolf Schenker (guitar) remain, as well as long time lead guitarist Matthias Jabs (from 1979 on). Rounding out the group are Pavel Maciwoda (from 2004 on) on bass and James Kottak (from 1996 on) on drums.

The album gets off to a roaring start with "Raised on Rock", a catchy as hell homage to the Scorps past. "Sting in the Tail" is a great dirty rock song. "Slave Me" couples heavy guitar riffing with some sleazy lyrics. "The Good Die Young" might be my favorite track on the album. It has a darker theme than some of the more lighthearted songs here and some haunting background vocals from Tarja Turunen. Jabs turns in some nice, almost Santana-esque guitar licks on this one. "No Limit" and "Rock Zone" are a couple more straight ahead rockers, with good sing along choruses. "Lorelei" hearkens back to "Send Me An Angel" from Crazy World or "Woman" from Face the Heat. "Turn You On" is another signature Scorpions ode to good lovin'. "Sly"is a heartfelt ballad, directed from a father to his estranged daughter. "Spirit of Rock" is a testimony to the endurance of rock music (and some rock bands?). The slow tempo-ed "The Best is Yet to Come" closes the album on a positive note and feels like a thank you to the fans.

The album touches on several eras of the Scorpions sound, although it regrettably doesn't pull in their 70s era Uli Jon Roth/Michael Schenker period (Fly to the Rainbow and In Trance are two of my favorite of their albums). It's still a great final effort from one of hard rock's longest running acts. I wish I could catch the final tour when it rolls by, but I'll have to settle for this album. Auf Wiedersehen, Scorps! Thanks for all the killer music.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT album with GREAT ballads   June 22, 2010
David Banner
I have been listening to this album a lot since I first got it over a month ago. I like most all of the songs, but I keep going back to those ballads. 'Sly' is so awesome - makes me think of Still Loving You because of the emotion of the song. 'Best is Yet to Come' is a great way to end the album and it made me think of all the years these guys have put out music. PLEASE DON'T RETIRE! The album is full of melodic rockers too. A few are better than others but there are none that are horrible. Overall, a great album and a very enjoyable listen that I often come back to.
