5 out of 5 stars A True Desert Island Record   August 28, 2008
M. Balzano
This is one of the greatest Records ever made, not just guitar records, but any record. Its amazing someone so young could produce something that still blows away most musicians accomplishments. With a guest appearance from Jason Becker this is a true desert island cd. Dont miss Marty making a guest appearance on Jason Becker's disc released around the same time, Perpetual Burn. Both of these are absolutely breathtaking.

5 out of 5 stars overlooked classic   August 23, 2007

This is one of the best records put out on shrapnel records and is an instant classic Dragon's Kiss is a very well rounded "shred" album its very melodic and progressive if you've heard Martys work you know he loves to layer his guitars he does it perfectly in this album the songs are powerful and moody they go from heavy to soft without any bumps in the road of course all the songs are flavored with Martys' unique guitar scales and passages which make the songs even more memorable the album opens up with "saturation point" a fast opener feat. Jason Becker to set this album off "Jewel" is another track which has Jason on it it's great guitar piece "Forbidden City " and "Thunder March " are to of my favorite guitar pieces ever ..This album has alot more depth and substance to it then most 80's shred records it has many goosebump moments pick this one up even if you're not a guitar wanker or if you've only heard Martys' Megadeth work . This is Martys' first solo record recorded before Rust in Peace and happens to be my favorite from Marty

5 out of 5 stars original shred sound   February 24, 2007
Brian Keltner (Denver, CO USA)
If you're a fan of instrumental shred guitar, this is a must-own. Marty Friedman has some serious chops and songwriting talent--an uncommon combination in this genre, I've found. He easily competes with guys such as Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, MacAlpine, Satriani, Vai, Tafolla, and Eric Johnson. Deen Castronovo complements nicely on drums--by that I mean that it takes a drummer of Deen's caliber to match Marty's virtuosic intensity, and vice versa.

5 out of 5 stars One from perhaps the most underrated axe-wielder of our era   January 9, 2007

Jason Becker was incredible and would have even been better, and even he admits that he would have gotten nowhere without the tutelage of his sagacious mentor, Marty Friedman. MF and JB offer a lot to guitar players, and their diverse styles combined with unparalleled technical abilities puts these guys, and guys like Yngwie, Chris Arvan, Bruce Boulliet, and Paul Gilbert on another plane. Heck, even Greg Howe.

Degrading comparisons to Satch, Vai, and other guitarists is unfair. Satch and Vai aren't even the best guitarists on their G3 tour (especially after playing with Yngwie Malmsteen).

One thing is clear. When Marty Friedman joined Megadeth he boosted that band's technical guitar prowess up from an 8 to a 10+. Not many guitarists can boast that ability.

4 out of 5 stars Good show   November 22, 2006
P. Aryanpur (bozeman, MT)
I bought this album together with Jason Becker's Perpetual Burn. After listening to both albums many many times, I can say that I like both albums equally. Dragons Kiss seems to have more consistently good songs and fresh musical ideas. Friedman is very good at building up musical tension in his solo's and he uses unique bends that are a trademark of his style. Perpetual burn is also a great album also but is great in its own way. I would recommend buying both of these albums just because they compliment each other. I would rate the combination of Dragon's Kiss and Perpetual Burn 5 stars, where individually I would rate them at 4 stars a peice.
