Amazon.com For a man openly hostile to tie-dyed nostalgia, Bob Dylan's 1987 summer tour with the Grateful Dead was a confounding event indeed. The result on this concert recording is Dylan warbling across the usual Dead groove: neither rock nor roll. No new compositions emerged from the summit, so their repertoire is limited to an unsurprising list of chestnuts ("All Along the Watchtower," "Knocking on Heaven's Door," etc.). Their meandering version of Dylan's "I Want You" would be a vicious parody of the original if it weren't so sadly true. And if these were the stadium tour's best performances, pity anyone who actually sat through one of these concerts with a clear head. --Steve Appleford

Fine. Very fine.. December 2, 2008 Dr. Joe (Vancouver, British Columbia Canada) Just bought this again, after losing custody of it many years ago. It's just as great as I remember it. What could be finer than Dylan with the Dead? How could anyone with a brain or a heart not like this?
Does this really need to be reviewed September 26, 2008 J. Warren Benton (Elizabeth city) Do you really need to read a review of this. Its Bob Dylan and Grateful dead, i mean come on, can you find a better combination of people to put together. The album jams pretty good. I love the mellow jam throughout Knockin' On heaven's door. This will probably not be an album you listen to everyday, but is one that when you put it on you will play it all the way through.
Riding the Stadium Train August 21, 2008 Mr. Richard D. Coreno (Berea, Ohio USA) In an era when stadium shows defined the summer concert scene, 1987 had a pairing of two iconic figure in rock/pop culture - Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead - on a six city tour.
The seven numbers which clock in a few ticks over 43 minutes highlight Dylan on guitar, harmonica and vocals - with the Grateful Dead as his backing band - that were recorded during four of the half-dozen July dates that comprised the tour.
With uneven performances, the album - released in 1989 - is a choppy capsulation of the collaboration, but is interesting nonetheless for fans of the artists or those seeking an audio slice of rock during an era when bigger was seen as better from the perspective of record company executives, concert promoters and artists.
