3 out of 5 stars Another fine example of the power of the ninjah!   February 9, 2001
David Taylor (Hellington, OH USA)
A fine example of the Herbaliser's excellent chilled vibe, rounded out by a number of remixes and a previously unreleased remix of another cut from the full-length album (later featured on the FUNKUNGFUSION comp). The 2 best mixes here are the Herbal Blend, remixed by the Herbaliser themselves, and the Peanut Butter Blend done by Peanut Butter Wolf. Both mixes keep that mellow vibe but push it a little further, giving it a blissed, 3AM vibe. Mrs. Chombee Takes The Plunge is mixed here by PC for DJ Food and maintains the niceties they displayed on Kaleidoscope while building elegance and chill-factor over the want to rock-out or get on the floor. The Cuban Blend, mixed by Jonny Cuba, is nice as well but never really takes off like the rest of the tracks here do. The only weakness here has to be What What's rap. It's not that her rap is bad, just that she displays almost no energy. I'd cower if I had to listen to an album's worth of her flow. All in all, this is definately a nice one to get, although I wouldn't call it essential. If you want some nice mixes, this is the place to go. If you're put off by non-energetic rappers getting center-stage, see if you can borrow someone's copy before you make that final decision.
