Amazon.com One question would be: What took him so long? After all, a contemporary like Van Morrison has sold boatloads of his single-disc best-of set to buyers wary of diving into that deep catalog without a primer to get them started. So three and a half decades into his solo career, Neil Young finally delivers his version of that most modest of albums--the pre-holiday "hits" overview. What's surprising, coming from such a proud maverick, is its conventionality. Granted, the original master mixes are a boon for fans, but otherwise, there's not much here for loyalists who quite likely already possess the original "Like a Hurricane" on a couple of albums, as well as a handful of live interpretations scanning the years. Since Young cracked the Top 10 only once (1972's "Heart of Gold"), this set is built around concert staples as "Cinnamon Girl," "Rockin' in the Free World," and "Hey, Hey, My My" rather than chart favorites. Despite Young's honorable standing as a still-vital graybeard, the disc is skewed heavily toward his early work, shortchanging some mighty productive recent years. Peripheral fans may find this set of interest, but faithful followers are better advised to investigate the DVD version, which, at least, includes videos, photos, lyrics, and Web links. --Steven Stolder

Super Seller November 16, 2008 D. Howell (Arlington, Tx) Great CD in perfect condition. Excellent seller w/ super fast shipping. Thanks for a great transaction.
Wasted space !!! November 8, 2008 Why waste 2-3 spots in the track listing with the terrible " COWGIRL IN THE SAND". Important songs such as " SO TELL ME WHY and SUGAR MOUNTAIN", would have filled this space perfect. Who wants BACK TO BACK "long", strung out songs on a CD. They are both terrible and the first 2 on the album. Also, "HEYHEY -MY MY" song.... just plain sounds old,bad and really stupid. THAT AINT NO HIT. I don't care what anybody say's.......as well as COWGIRL IN THE SAND. Plain terrible. What a waste of space for some good shorter, better played , wrote songs.
Give Neil a break! July 30, 2008 Todd Brame (Cedarburg, WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What's up with fans crying "sellout" over this album? If you're a longtime fan and have all these songs already relax - this disc wasn't meant for you. As if you don't have any 'best ofs' of other artists in your collection. Any artist with a catalog as extensive as Neil's should have a few compilations for newbies and casual listeners. At least there isn't a new track on this disc that isn't available elsewhere. Now THAT'S a cheap sellout gimmick.
That said, this compilation could have picked up where "Decade" left off.
Neil Young legend June 4, 2008 Floyd B. (Madison, Wisconsin (Mad town!)) What can I say that I haven't already said in my other review of Neil Young DVD live show? He is a master singer and songwriter. I never get tired of any of his performances, which is why I buy his works whenever I can. There is something about Neil's music that brings out the best in feelings when listening to his music. You're just glad to be alive, especially when watching his live show DVD that I recently rated. By the way, I have already watched his live show more times than I can remember and love it every time. You are one of the best Neil and I thank you for sharing your talent with us all!
Sounds like they were just recorded! A super collection! May 24, 2008 Robert G. Martinez (Brooksville FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was skeptical to buy this, because I'm an old fan, and I had most of the songs on older CD's. But from the very first cut "Down By The River", I could tell these songs jumped out with more presence than I ever heard them before. Actually, these most all are my Neil Young favorites and these are most of the songs you'd want to hear again and again anyway, so this is a very logical choice for the new or the old fan. All of them sound like they were just recorded this morning. Highly Recommended!
