This has been a great receiver for me. It has plenty of hook ups for just about anything you what to hook up to it. I highly recommend this receiver, especially for the reasonable price.

5 out of 5 stars really really nice   April 19, 2008

We bought this receiver to replace our older Sony unit. The Sony had higher power ratings, but the Onkyo has it all over the Sony in every other department. I'm very impressed with the optical sound, video switching, the great variety of sound stages (and the auto detect feature). It integrates very nicely with our hi def DVR, AppleTV, and DVD player, all optical/digital sound and all component video. Just got around to setting up the distance to listener business, which makes it sound even better. My wife recently remarked that this is the best sounding equipment we've had, and I agree. Voices are very distinct now, whereas they were muddled with the Sony gear. A nice bit of equipment, and much better than I imagined it would be in this price range. A terrific value, and a lot of fun to own.

5 out of 5 stars Great ONKYO receiver for the $$$$!   March 26, 2008

If you are looking for a great amp without a $200+ price tag this is your model. I used this amp for a basic application in a small room. The sound is clean for music and for movies. I also really like the five channel stereo DSP(digital sound processing) mode so I can listen to all my speakers while listening to music or TV without surround effects. I wish the remote had more of a universal application, but it is still laid out well for controlling the functions of the receiver. The digital inputs are assignable and the layout of the receiver is simple and intuitive. This is great for a novice or just for a basic application. You can't go wrong with ONKYO.

3 out of 5 stars Good budget 5.1 receiver except for...   March 5, 2008

The sound quality is good as well as the number of inputs. I utilize both optical inputs, one for the DVD and one for the satellite receiver. My only disappointment is that there is no tone adjustments for speaker B. I have outdoor speakers on the patio that require a bit extra bass, but cannot adjust the sound. It took me quite some time to find the one line reference for this on page 42 of the manual. Onkyo confirms there are no tone adjustments for "B", but have not responded to multiple messages asking why this receiver was designed this way. It doesn't make any sense to not be able to adjust the sound coming out of a set of speakers. And since I didn't discover this for several months, I am beyond any retrun policy. This is a good buy for the surround, but if you are going to use speaker "B", consider another manufacturer.

3 out of 5 stars underpowered   February 26, 2008

I bought this reciever when my magnovox decided to quit on me, and after reading the reviews, I thought this was the one but although the features are nice, I have to turn the volume to max to get the same performance as my old reciever at about one third. and they where around the same price point. I wish I would have spent a little more and got better performance (hind sight), but It will do for now.
