Product Description
The Sherwood RX-4105 100 Watt Stereo Receiver. In our modern, surround sound driven audio universe where home theater enthusiasts hear airplanes fly overhead and bombs exploding around them, one might think that mere Stereo is old fashioned. But don't be mislead — humans have only two ears and stereo is still a significant life form. Our case in point: the RX-4105. It's actually an update of our market leading RX-4100/4103. rated at 100 watts, we've reduced distortion significantly. It's now less than 0.20% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and we've improved the reliability with a new layout borrowed from our higher end models. The RX-4105 has a good AM/FM tuner with the ability to pre-set up to 30 favorite stations. It has inputs for 4 audio sources to accommodate your sound gear. And the sound is phenomenal — as you'd expect from a company that dates its own existence to before stereo's birth. And the RX-4105 has at least one unexpected grace: the ability to independently select up to two sets of loudspeakers via the supplied remote control. (Audio purists will be pleased to know that this relay-controlled switching puts the speakers in parallel, maintaining their individual sound qualities.)

Amazon.com Product Description
Sherwood's incredibly affordable RX-4105 offers integrated preamplification and amplification, inputs for numerous audio source components, and advanced radio tuning and station access. The receiver delivers 100 watts RMS per channel x 2 for strong, clear sound across the audible spectrum--even at low listening levels. The company has lowered the amplifier's distortion relative to the previous model (the RX-4105), to less than 0.08 percent, while also giving the receiver a new layout borrowed from its higher-end components.

The RX-4105 uses totally discrete amplifiers for all channels (TDAS) to maintain its high power and low distortion. Use the receiver's A and B clip-type speaker outputs to power 2 different rooms, or to biwire a pair of speakers for more efficient amplification (with A outputs driving the woofers, for instance, and the B outputs driving the tweeters--make sure your speakers are compatible if this is a key feature for you).

The receiver also offers a handy 25-key remote control and switching for 2 pair of loudspeakers. Audio inputs switch between and amplify up to 4 additional components, including 2 requiring both inputs and outputs (such as a cassette deck and a VCR). The built-in AM/FM tuner features 30 station presets and auto station setup.

Other features include bass and treble tone controls, a dimmable fluorescent display, and a .25-inch headphone jack for private listening.

What's in the Box
Sherwood RX-4105 receiver, remote control, AC power supply cord, FM indoor antenna, AM loop antenna set, and owner's manual.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic value !   August 7, 2010
mark swanson (Cleveland, OH, US)
I did some reading on this and other inexpensive 2-channel amps/receivers. These days the only 2 channel available is the high-end audiophile stuff or the really cheap stuff. I am 60 and have poor hearing anyway and decided I would not notice the difference - at least not $1,200 worth of difference. My 30 yr old NAD7020 started getting noisy - needed new caps (over 80 caps in that unit). I have re-capped motherboards and old radios but I decided this was too much work. Sad because the NAD looks perfect - just makes a slight crackle or distortion overy 15-30 seconds. Anyway - the Sherwood lives up to the best reviews. Tape and phono inputs were a special bonus for me - have a large vinyl collection from the 70's. If you are in the market for an inexpensive old-fashioned (2-channel) stereo receiver this is it.

5 out of 5 stars Good starter stereo   August 6, 2010

This tuner is a good deal for the price. It only took minutes to set up and the sound is very clear. Now there is a lot of drawbacks to this stereo.
1. the sound is OK, that is it, there is barely any bass to music but great mid and tweet sound.
2. Only stereo sound is available, no 5.1 or any other feature this stereo is a tuner/amplifier.
With that said though there are a lot of plus's,
1. there are many inputs and a few outputs which makes it easy to run to another receiver, or to your favorite tape deck.
2. The remote is easy and plain to use. No special features makes it a fools proof remote.
I use this stereo myself to push my rear surround sound speakers off of my main 1500 watt receiver and it sounds awesome. I didn't know what to think of the sherwood name at first with all the negative reviews but I can honestly say, if you are looking for your first stereo, or even an amp to push a little bit more power, look no further.

4 out of 5 stars Good deal   July 19, 2010

Stereo arrived when expected and worked without any problems. Slightly annoying in that when you turn it on, you don't hear sound for a few seconds and then hear the unit select the last selected speakers A or B or both. Considering the rock bottom discount price, I almost expected a ripoff of some sort. The unit works great. I've got it hooked up to an outdoor inground speaker system and I was surprised at the sound quality. Perhaps if you are a sound expert, it maybe low end, but for your average user, is delivers a reasonable sound quality. Inputs and outputs where sufficient to allow me to hook the unit to my cable box and dvr/cd player and if I had more things to connect it to, it appears to have plenty of additional inputs. I will eventually expand the unit and add a 2nd pair of speakers for indoor use. The unit allows me this flexibility.

5 out of 5 stars Sherwood RX 4103 (Yes, I know it's not a 4105)   July 7, 2010
Jerome Bush (Louisiana)
I don't have the 4105, but I have the 4103. As Amazon doesn't sell the 4103, I reasoned that the 4105 is pretty close to the 4103. I don't know how well the radio works. Never used it. I bought mine to power 2 passive subwoofers I own. It's more than enough to shake the walls. I wrote this review for the reviewer that said all you could do with this receiver was play CDs (since his radio wouldn't work). You can also plug in a DVD (for two-channel sound) or a phono: just use one of the inputs like tape, CD, aux. I don't know if anyone still has passive subwoofers, but if you do, you can power them with this receiver. I really like mine.
