5 out of 5 stars The "Real" Guitar Hero   November 8, 2008

If great guitar-playing is what you enjoy ... what are you waiting for ?
Duarte sets a new standard for guitar solos on this one. Stop reading this and go get it.

4 out of 5 stars CARRYING ON THE TRADITON   November 2, 2008

Duarte has taken the gauntlet Stevie Ray Vaughn threw down to impressive heights. However, the five star reviews are a little generous. His riffs and phrasing are most impressive, but his weakness is still as a lyricist. The cut Let's have a Party is really beneath his talents. Still, this is probably his most diverse set. Woodpecker is an excellent instrumental that does harken back to Jeff Beck. Satisfy is another excellent track. He's often been called a SRV clone. That's not a totally fair assessment. He's a killer modern blues rock guitarist who's overall songwriting still needs some lyrical improvement.

This CD rocks, rolls and satisfies. It has radio friendly rock that will make you want to shimmy til you shake something loose, it has funky jazz instrumentals that will make you bob your head, it has extended guitar solos that you can get lost in and it flat out boogies! Somehow Chris (with top-notch producer Mike Varney) does this all and maintains coherence throughout the CD. Chris' vocals shine, his guitar playing is breath taking. Jeff Reilly on drums more than keeps up, he propels the songs! And hats off to bass player extraordinaire, Joseph Patrick Moore, he rightfully takes the first recorded bass solo on a CDG album.

5 out of 5 stars A stunning cd.   October 17, 2008

Great CD! Mr. Duarte shines with the backing of Joseph Patrick Moore and Jeff Reilly on drums. This is the best band I have seen Chris play with, and it is captured in the studio on this disc. It is a playful cd in the lines of Texas Sugar, with the added edge and polish acquired with time.

Buy 2 of these CDs and give one to a friend. If you don't have a friend, give it to a stranger, and make a friend.

5 out of 5 stars Been wondering where all the great guitar solos have gone...?   October 8, 2008

To call Chris Duarte one of the best guitar players walking the planet would not be an exaggeration. That would, however, be selling him short. Chris has been making fine quality albums for a number of years now. Always with solid song writing, good production, and fine backing from some tremendous musicians. All of these things are in play with Vantage Point. What has become more obvious is the increased range and power of Duarte's voice. Whether growling a smokey blues or wailing a rock tune about some female who done wrong, his versatility continues to amaze and impress. Instrumental prowess is there to be sure, but what Chris is able to accomplish with his voice is nothing short of amazing. With each new album he experiments more boldly and more successfully with different colors and textures for his music. Just another Texas blues player? Not so fast. One of my favorite songs on the album is Babylon - a really punchy little tune with echoes of Little Feat, Allman Brothers, and The Black Crowes. Another highlight is Woodpecker - a Jeff Beck style instrumental incursion. In a world dominated by pre-programmed, looping hip hop, vocal corrected nonsense, real music created by real musicians is crucial. And Vantage Point is just that...crucial.
