Description Magic Slim is the greatest living proponent of the intense, electrified, Mississippi-to-Chicago blues style that spawned much of the music played by modern blues artists and rockers alike. Its no wonder that Magic Slim & The Teardrops, considered by many to be "the last real Chicago blues band," have become one of the busiest and best-loved touring units today. This live recording, taped in 2005 at the Sierra Nevada Brewery, showcases Slim's slashing, vibrato-drenched guitar, mountain-moving vocals and presents an authentic South Side, back-alley excursion into the true blues. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS A COMPACT DISC - LOOK IN AMAZON'S MUSIC STORE....The DVD program is not the same as concurrent compact disc release. DVD includes interview with Magic Slim, adding additional 14 minutes to 60 minute concert program... AUDIO OPTIONS include Dolby Digital Stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround TRACKS 1. I'm A Bluesman 2. The Man You Need 3. Goin' To Mississippi 4. Please Don't Dog Me 5. Mind Your Own Business 6. I Ain't Looking For No Love 7. You Got To Pay 8. I Need Lovin' 9. Shake It 10. NOT Magical June 20, 2008 Paul Bowers (Arizona) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Save your money. Mediocre performance. A good bar band, perhaps, but certainly nothing inspiring on this dvd.
A little surreal, but a nice DVD February 13, 2007 Ecologist_1 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It is a little odd so see Magic Slim playing that venue to the crowd present. In any event, the production is good, the band is good and the crowd is into it and I am thankful to have a good quality AV recording of Magic Slim.
a blues lesson April 6, 2006 . (Chicago, IL USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
For those who don't understand the difference between playing playing a blues tune, or playing blues-style, and playing the -the- blues, Magic Slim clears all confusion. Everything here is straight-ahead: shuffles, "lumps"(Jimmy Reed) slow blues, and fat-back. No fancy tricks, no jazzy add-ons, no technique-based showing-off. So what's so special? Real blues phrasing and tone, in a way that simply has to be heard to be understood. Every note has a purpose, and is dripping with the flavor of Slim's Mississippi-to-Chicago background.
Great way to remember a great performer February 24, 2006 G. Kunath (Lincoln, Nebraska, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was so happy to get this DVD of Magic Slim performing. Magic Slim is getting older and someday we won't be able to enjoy his live performances anymore. Having this DVD is a great way to preserve that.
Magic Slim and the Teardrops at their best October 4, 2005 K. Simms 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Quite simply the best blues DVD I've seen. Magic Slim's beautiful and extended solos are pristine, every note crystal clear. The teardrops lay down a groove in the first cut that's irresistible and it follows them throughout the set. Vernal Taylor's drumming is impeccable, especially the work on the high-hat; Jon McDonald's driving rhythm and tight solos really set the tone. Christopher Biedron provides solid though unobtrusive bass support. In my view, all numbers are superior to the studio versions. If you're a blues lover, this could be the best twenty bucks you'll ever spend.
