| Editorial Reviews:
Album Description Includes Watson's best mid-'50s recordings for Federal Records and early `60s sides for King. Also features one of the biggest hits of his career, the top 5 hit "Cuttin' In" and the stratospheric instrumental "Space Guitar." As a bonus there is an earlier second take of "Space Guitar" that's similar in structure but utterly different improvisationally.

Early Guitar Watson Showcase February 27, 2008 Terence Allen (Atlanta, GA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Johnny "Guitar" Watson is best known for his hit song "Gangster of Love," but when most of these recording were made, he was just a young blues singer/guitarist who was trying to find his way.
This nice collections shows off the young Watson, who was even billed as Young John Watson, show off his singing and playing skills on such cuts as "Half Pint Of Whiskey," " Cuttin' In," "Half Pint Of Whiskey," "Gettin' Drunk," and two versions of his classic "Space Guitar."
Watson was a very talented singer and player who in his later years embraced an eccentric funk star, but these songs show his blues beginnings, and reveal a talent that still isn't as appreciated as he should be.
