Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Produced by the legendary Ralph Bass (James Brown, T-Bone Walker, Little Esther Phillips) in 1977, this classic Johnson soul-blues release is finally available on CD. Johnson's sound comes from the heart of Chicago's West side of the '60s and '70s, where he played with Magic Sam and Freddie King. Includes the original 1977 liner notes by Living Blues founding editor Jim O'Neal, plus his update.

`Pepper's Hangout' was Johnson's first LP but it wasn't released until a few years ago. Aside from a couple of lame cover choices (The Things I Used to do", "High Heel Sneakers") it is a pretty good album. The two slow blues ("Married Woman Blues", "Looking for My Baby") are both vintage Johnson, while the instrumental title track is a simple but funky groove with awesome guitar playing. Though his other Delmark and Alligator albums are stronger, `Pepper's Hangout' is still essential for any Jimmy Johnson fan.
