This Project is Blues Magic March 24, 2001 Pastor Leon (Kaukauna, WI United States) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Music, especially blues guitar does not come from the head. To make another person feel what you feel, see what you see, hear what you hear and know what you know, you must play with your heart. Bernard Allison is all heart. I had wondered if soul splitting blues had gone the way of 8 tracks and pet rocks. This project convinced me that I was wrong. After popping this baby into the player for the first time, I was moved before I even left the parking lot. And when the third track started "Check Yourself," I had to pull the car over to the side of the road. I just could'nt drive and experience this album both at the same time. This is blues 101 and blues graduate school in one neat package. Sit back enjoy and let Bernard Allison show you what he is made of. Like I said before, both Mr. Allison and this project are all heart
Great Act March 18, 2001 John W. Toliver Jr. (Dayton, Tennessee USA) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I saw Bernard Allison at Riverbend in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was great. See him live if you get the chance. If you can't see him live buy his CD's. They are all great if you like the Blues. I would compare him to Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Like father like son... February 18, 2000 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Bernard more tha n lives up to the legacy of his dad, Luther with this brilliant recording. Every damn song on it is a keeper. I especially thought the track with "If you want me to stay", truly exceptional as an updated rendition of the Sly and the Family Stone version. He delivers in everyway, funky, soulfull, roots rockin vocals and guitar. His solo on the recording is watered down compared to a live show I caught in Madison, WI. This is probably one of the best cds released in the last 5-10 years. Where is the music press? Why isn't he being covered like Kenny Wayne Shepard, Jonny Lang, Shannon Curfman? I think it is an important question to ask. Remember, the music business creates markets to sell there products. This is sometimes what they mean by "artist development". Just look at the Backstreet Boys.
A must have Bernard Allison CD June 29, 1999 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
very enjoyable to listen to time and time again, Bernard is a contemporary blues master.
great entry into blues guitar forum June 23, 1999 Bernards entry into the competitive blues guitar venue is full of life and energy. I had recently seen him play a show and sought out this albulm afterwards. This recording pays tribute to his father, in a big way, and launches him into the arena of blues guitar virtuoso. His selection of some older tunes,at the end, suprisd me as well as his song writing. This albulm is solid from top to bottom. His touring experience with Koko taylor
