Soulful But Uneven September 7, 2008 N-Chap (Texas) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bobby Blue Bland has one of the all-time great voices for the blues. This album is one I listened to a lot when it was first released. It is much more in a soul style than his earlier recordings. Five super songs, Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City, I'm Not Going To Be The First To Cry, Yolanda, Dreamer, and Who's Fooling Who. The rest of the songs are more or less forgettable keeping this from being a five star CD. If you want to put some great stuff on your I-Pod, buy this or just download those five.
A CLASSIC GEM March 5, 2006 L. garrett 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Absolutely one of legendary Blands best albums from the early seventies. A hands down masterpiece. Not a filler song to be found on the whole set. Bland delivers with a top notch band backing him on songs that cover all shades of blues from the bitter "cold day in hell", to the fun rocking "whos fooling who". His smooth icy warning on "I wouldnt treat a dog..." will leave you apologizing out loud. A well deserved vinyl to cd treasure.
