Amazon.com essential video Few guitarists ever mastered the Fender Stratocaster like the late, great Texas bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan, and this priceless digital video disc collects both of the sizzling appearances that Vaughan and his solid band, Double Trouble, made on the PBS concert series Austin City Limits. Combined to form the most popular program in the show's distinguished history, the concerts were taped in 1983 and 1989; both provide a valuable portrait of Vaughan's astounding artistic development. The performances serve as bookends to Vaughan's brilliant career with Double Trouble, showing (in the words of producer Terry Lickona) a striking contrast between "zero self-confidence" and "pure magic," but in both cases you can see a master at work. Songs include "Pride and Joy," "Texas Flood," "Voodoo Chile," "Cold Shot," and "Riviera Paradise." This great-sounding DVD also includes the posthumous music video "Little Wing," featuring clips of Double Trouble and archival footage of blues greats from the 1920s to the mid-1990s. If you're even a part-time blues fan, Stevie Ray Vaughan: Live from Austin, Texas is a must-have disc. --Jeff Shannon

TEXAS BLUES TO RIVAL ANYBODY***** December 6, 2008 Noreen Stead VERY WORTHY DVD OF STEVIE. THERE MAY BE MORE LAVISH PRODUCTIONS BUT I PREFER THE MORE INTIMATE VENUES. THIS IS BLUES THAT THE OLD TIMERS WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF. I MISS THEM ALL. STEVIE WE ALL LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU.
great October 5, 2008 J. Govekar Awesome DVD, great quality and a live up close setting. If you enjoy this music, get this DVD
Excellent March 13, 2008 shannon fox (Texas) Nice quality production, lots of music, satisfies the craving for listening to Stevie's music and seeing him perform.
AWESOME, BUT WHERE IS THE REST? January 28, 2008 Rafal Szafran (London, Ontario Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned the VHS version and played it till it just won't play. I'm not the only one, I'm sure. Like most, I bought the DVD as soon as it was released and it has seen better days as well. I won't bore you with what you already know. I want to know why the powers that be have yet to release the first show from start to finish, regardless of what they may think of the quality of the performance? As we know, the remaining songs from the second show do appear on the dvd from the boxed set. Would it be too much to ask to have the entire show from '89 on one dvd and in chronilogical order? Honestly, think of the money that would be made for whomever owns the rights. When will we see the whole show from the In Session program with Albert? I live in London,Ontario, which is a stones throw from Hamilton, where the show originated from and I am sure I recall seeing Johnny Winter and Dr. John perform on this show as well. It would be great to see SRV and Albert full blown on DVD. Turn It Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stevie Ray Vaughan live at Austin Texas December 29, 2007 B. Watret (Woodhal Spa. LINCS. UK) This DVD is not as long as the one done from El Mocambo in Canada, but is does show what a great breadth he has. I think he takes "Vodoo Chile'" to a different level, and the entire DVD shows him doing what he does best, making realy good music!
