Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
The fifth chilled back Waveform release from this well known London duo.

Sounds from the Ground is London's Nick Woolfson and Elliot Morgan Jones. Their debut album Kin came out on Waveform in 1996. Several albums later, we're proud to present their fifth title in the growing Waveform catalog, a reflective and mesmerizing future classic and another shimmering effort.

"Consistently engaging." -- Billboard

5 out of 5 stars Another Triumph   December 3, 2008
Elizabeth Reams (Los Angeles, CA)
I have always admired and enjoyed hearing bands that create new pieces of music that sounds unlike anything else they've done on the album before. I think that is what makes a band stand out, and keep bringing something fresh and new to audiences. Sounds from the Ground is one of those bands that seems to have a different feel to their music with every new album they put out.
And this one, is no different. And at the same time, it is all, very new.
I was...well, the only word that comes to my mind is "enthralled"...when I heard it from the beginning. I was too used to their other albums, where there would be an occasional weird piece that I didn't seem to enjoy, or there would be an album I liked above another, and so on.
This is one of their first albums where I have enjoyed every track. And I mean, EVERY track.
Let's randomly pick a track. How about "Waves"? It starts out, quite simply, simply beautiful. The song then pauses. And takes you to another way of hearing the same, simple beauty. Their music on this, is a gentle, intense reminder of how to look at one thing that seems to be the same...and then you do a double take and look again. And you see and feel it, in a completely new way. And their last track "Mesh" - absolute beauty. The ending is better than any kind of passion I could even try to describe. All I know is I am painfully in love with the way it ends. I love music that provokes new emotions that we can't find words for. A thousand different ways to feel, from just one wave.
A thousand different ways to feel, from just one new album. I'm very surprised, and yet pleasantly reassured that Sounds From the Ground never ceases to find a new level to show us.

4 out of 5 stars It GROWS on you...   November 16, 2008

Another great album by these guys. The music on this release is a bit more minimalistic than their other albums (I guess the cover is a giveaway to that). To my untrained ear, it reminds me of Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" but with that distinct SFTG style. It gets better and better the more and more you LISTEN TO IT.
