Album Description Digi-pak pressing. Fourth album from Belgian producer Dirk Swartenbroeckx (AKA Buscemi). His style is deep and often difficult to categorize: Nu Bossa, Nu Lounge, House Music, Brazilian Grooves, Afrobeat, Drum 'n Bass... Dance music with a Latin feel is maybe the best description of the sound of Buscemi. There are some lovely bossa moments on Retro Nuevo, but so much more. Dutch singer Fay Lovsky contributed her words and vocals to the charming 'Nao falo portugu^s'. Viviani Godoy conquered the broken beats of the pleasing 'Isolada do Mundo'. African singer Alexia Waku laid the funky 'Jumilla'. Dag Taeldeman (A Brand) brought the chemistry of 'Medusa'. Even the great Isabelle Antena returns with another superb performance on the lovely and chilled 'Nothing to worry about'. The album was preceded by the storming Electro Jazz-Club single 'Jazz Jumper', that got excellent response from DJ's worldwide. EMI. 2007.

Another Strong Buscemi Album June 15, 2007 bordersj2 (Boston) Buscemi's one of my favorite producers/DJ's. Admittedly I've never found the perfect 5 star effort from him but he's so consistently good, he ends up being 5 stars overall. Dirk Swartenbroex has been around for around a decade now delivering sweet house beats and tunes, loaded with influences from around the world. He took a stronger affinity to Brasil with some of his cuts and he's had some amazing reworks done - not to mention guest performers like Isabelle Antenna. This represents his fourth full album, released in early 2007. So what can you expect from the man who claimed that his inspiration is 'beautiful women?' (hence, every album cover of his has a female)
Expect consistency - another good release. "Lost" starts out and it actually reminds me a bit of Minus 8's work witih the way it builds. Nice track. A very typical Buscemi track is "Nao Falo Portuguese". Brings me back to the days of "Ramiro's Theme". This one's a bit silly, but it's got a sort of charm to it and it's got an amazing level of production work in it with the effects in the back-ground and the direction of the song. Really well done! Hopefully it'll get a great remix... hopefully by Conte. "Brasileiras" follows up adequately so too. Nice little Batucada sample in the background as the song builds steam... festive and really made for the turntable/summmer parties. "Sahib Balkan" was also pretty cool - you definitely get a picture in your head with this one. Think along the lines of "The Karminsky Experience" with even more sampling. I thought "Medusa" was interesting too because it reminded me of an old Bugz In the Attic base-line with Mark Force (40 Days, 40 Nights). I was also a fan of "Isolada Do Mundo" - sweet stuff here. Yet more amazing effects that are delivered with precision. And in a very astute move, Isabelle Antenna returns for another track with "Nothing to Worry About". What a voice she's got - dripping with class.
A good effort from Buscemi. It seems like forever between his releases but this one was pretty nice. Admittedly, I wasn't a fan of all the tracks in there but I heard more than enough to get excited about any upcoming 12" remixes in the works. If you do like this, check out some compost artists too - particularly Beanfield and Minus 8. Jazzanova should also make your seek list and you'll also want to check out Amon Tobin if you haven't already.
'Another masterpiece' (would be redundant) March 12, 2007 Dj4cast (secret mountain retreat, usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As usual, This gentleman delivers the beats, vocals, syths and the bass like a drink at sunset. It takes you away from your day to day, it creates an alternative world. So lush in places, so house in others. Take this to the beach and blast it, put the headphones on and take the long way. Either way this new thing satisphies like all his other works. Where is the American Buscemi? (insert joke)The future of music is the very cultural collage Buscemi delivers with ease. Perhaps in 20 years the world will recognise a genius like this, do yourself a favor and pick this up now. Spring is right around the corner and summer a few miles away. I can't think of anything else except perhaps Sven Van Hees that I want on my speakers....(Dj4cast)
