Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Indigo Girls Amy Ray and Emily Saliers celebrate their long-standing passion for live performance on their upcoming release, Staring Down the Brilliant Dream. The 2-disc CD features 31 songs, each hand-selected by the GRAMMY®-winning duo to capture the most memorable moments of their 2006-2009 shows. The CD reflects the spontaneity of a typical Indigo's concert and includes a mix of solo performances and other numbers backed by their full band, plus vocal collaborations with such guests artists as Brandi Carlile and Jill Hennessey. Staring Down the Brilliant Dream encapsulates the wide range of emotions that fill their shows with fire and wonder, from the warm, sing-a-long spirit of Saliers' "Closer to Fine" to the political combustion of Ray's "Go."

With two decades and countless concerts behind them, it would be understandable if the duo now found it hard to distinguish one concert from the next. Instead, as this CD proves, they remain as engaged and present onstage as ever. For each track, Saliers and Ray have penned personal notes on how they wrote the song, what they remember about that specific show, and why--among the thousands to chose from--they value this performance so much. This 2-disc set is a brilliant reminder of all those concerts we were lucky to catch--and consolation for the ones we hated to miss.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!!   August 29, 2010
Rebecca White (Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK)
Absolutely brilliant, I've got most songs on other cds but loved it none the less!

4 out of 5 stars Solid all around but no big surprises   August 27, 2010
E. Hunt (San Francisco, CA United States)
This is basically "Retrospective" meets "Poseidon and the Bitter Bug" live. Which is to say, it's awesome. Indigo Girls have been touring with phenomenal openers for the past few years, and those guests shine on this album in some key spots (particularly on "Kid Fears" and "Rock and Roll Heaven's Gate"). If, like me, you became hooked on Brandi Carlile or 3/5 Human after hearing them open for Amy and Emily, buy this album. You'll love it.

That said, it's not particularly adventurous or unique. Since Amy and Emily sound pretty much the same live and recorded, the highlight of "1200 curfews" and Indigo Girls live shows, I think, are the amazing covers that make you love a favorite song in a completely new way (evidence: "Tangled Up in Blue" and "Uncle John's Band" and the chill-inducing acoustic "American Tune"). Out of the 31 songs on this album, only one is a cover. It's a GREAT one, but I would have loved a few more surprises that you can't get on any other album.

5 out of 5 stars Another great IG album   August 25, 2010

Love their live recordings. Reminds me of the times they've come to Australia and I've seen them in concert. Great stuff.

5 out of 5 stars great mix of old and new   August 19, 2010

My first introduction to Indigo Girls was 1200 Curfews, and I was a little nervous to purchase this new live album just because Curfews was such a great mix...I wasn't sure Staring Down The Brilliant Dream would live up to it. I was wrong! What a great compilation. They've pulled out some older songs and made them new again for me, as well as adding some great ones from Poseidon and the Bitter Bug. Love it! I've listened to it many times already, hearing it in a different way each time.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!   August 7, 2010
