Editorial Reviews:

On Chant Down Babylon, Bob Marley's master tapes meet the next generation. Marley hardly needs help selling records, so these studio-engineered duets may reflect an honest attempt at linking his musical legacy with contemporary artists. Even those sympathetic to the concept, though, should wonder if it's wise to substitute new backing tracks for the original sinuous grooves of "Concrete Jungle" and "Rebel Music." (To the disc's credit, the rhythms of "No More Trouble" and "Rastaman Chant" are left largely intact.) And as obvious as the connection between reggae and hip-hop is, Guru ("Johnny Was") and even Chuck D ("Survival a.k.a. Black Survivors") have nothing to add to Marley's perfectly chosen words. Finally, don't be surprised if your patience wears as several of Marley's sons help travesty "Kinky Reggae." --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Excellent cd with cool versions of some of Bob's classics   December 30, 2008

I heard this album while on a catamaran in the Virgin Islands and loved it so much I just had to purchase it. Whenver I hear it, it takes me back to the Caribbean, with remixes of Bob's classics. It's a great album.

5 out of 5 stars Turn your lights down low and listen...   September 19, 2008
S. Hirschmann (Iowa, USA)
While I understand the dismay of some to remixing any of Bob's songs, I think this album is so beautifully done that it transcends most objections. Any work that brings Bob's timeless music to a new generation is definitely a good thing, and I'm not a rap fan. My two favorites here are Turn Your LIghts Down Low, and Johnny Was, two of the best songs ever written, in my opinion. I think this album is a great introduction, and if you're already a Bob Marley fan (and who isn't?) be sure to check out the original tracks also. Just a word of warning, though...his music is addictive, I have some on pretty much all the time.

3 out of 5 stars different sound   July 30, 2008

my favorite album is Legend, but i enjoy this one as well. there will never be another Bob Marley, but i feel this was a great effort by everyone involved to bring a new sound to his music.

5 out of 5 stars Survival a.k.a. Black Survivors   February 10, 2008
Anthony C. Russano
My favorite track on this album is tack 11, which is a remix of Survival that stays very true to the original song. It uses Bob Marley's complete lyrics and does not have any guest artists... the only thing they changed was the timing and the beat... it sounds dope. I recommend for those who liked the original Survival album by Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Survival was my first & favorite Bob Marley & the Wailers album. Here are all the tracks on that album, in case you didnt know how good the songs are:

So Much Trouble in the World, Zimbabwe,Top Rankin', Babylon System, Survival, Africa Unite, One Drop, Ride Natty Ride, Ambush in the Night, and Wake Up and Live.
